IIPP Program

International Internship Pilot Program

Introduction

This program is an initiative by the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) to provide high-quality internship opportunities in Taiwan for emerging global research talent. It offers students the chance to experience Taiwan's cutting-edge research environment, gain deeper insights into the nation's scientific capabilities, and potentially pursue further studies or careers in Taiwan, injecting new momentum into the country's R&D development.

Program Details

  • Application Process: Professors and international students can register and apply separately via the IIPP official website.
  • Application Deadline: For 2025, the deadline is Monday, September 15.
  • Internship Duration: Minimum of 28 days, maximum of 90 days.
  • Funding: Up to NTD 30,000 per month for students not residing in Taiwan.
  • Requirement: A final report must be submitted upon completion.

Important Notes

  • During the internship period, the project host is expected to provide appropriate research guidance to the intern, facilitate interaction with local Taiwanese students, and help the intern gain an understanding of Taiwan’s diverse culture. Interns are required to engage in research and learning activities relevant to the project’s assigned topic and academic field.

  • Each Principal Investigator (PI) may offer up to two internship positions.

  • International students must complete their application at least three months before the internship begins. The IIPP system closes its application processing on the 15th of each month.
(For example, if a 2025 project ends in February 2026, the system will stop accepting applications on September 15, 2025.)

  • Eligible students must be foreign nationals currently enrolled at an overseas school (students from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan are not eligible).
Applicants must not receive other Taiwan-based scholarships or participate in other projects funded by such scholarships concurrently.

  • The department or institute hosting the intern should assist the student in applying for on-campus housing through the Student Housing Services Division or help locate suitable off-campus accommodation.

  • Students are required to provide their own proof of insurance.

  • Students must submit a report during their internship. The system will send reminder emails based on the length of the internship. The standard submission date is the 21st of each month. The Principal Investigator (PI) is responsible for reviewing and approving the report through the platform.

  • Students will receive a monthly internship allowance of NT$30,000, provided via check. The disbursement timing depends on when the IIPP funds are credited.
